Raising regard for the Araripe Manakin in local communities is key to it’s continued survival. The NGO Aquasis has been wildly successful at promoting the bird as a symbol for the area and for clean, healthy water supplies. Taking care of the springs, steams, and humid forest is a win-win for both people and the birds. Around towns like Crato, the Araripe Manakin’s image can be seen on taxi cabs, decorative tile work, and even graffiti.
